In response to 9/11 a Massai tribe of Africa donated not one, or two but fourteen cattle to the people of New York. To the Massai cattle are sacred. This one resource is their greatest worldly possession. The gift of a cow is the highest expression of regard and sympathy. A self-less gift this great comes from a place of pure spiritual empathy.
This is the reason we asked Paul Kitamba a renowned Akamba carver of Kenya to create this exquisite hand-carved set to symbolize the birth of higher consciousness. Traditional Nativity scenes refer to the birth of Jesus. The message of love the man Jesus practiced during his life is what the Massai practiced through the gift of their most prized possession to the people of New York.
Each Nativity in our collection represents a different cultural view of the birth of a new level of consciousness – that of spreading love, peace, empathy and cooperation across the planet, regardless of race or religious beliefs.
Paul hand carves each piece using wood from the Neem tree. Known as the Kilifi tree in Kiswahili, Neem is an abundant, fast growing and non-endangered wood. Neem trees grow to maturity in 10-20 years as opposed to the 80 to 150 years it takes for exotic hardwoods. Carvers are beginning to plant Neem trees for their future use in woodcarving in an effort to sustain the overall environmental balance of the region.
Some of the pieces are hand painted with non-toxic stain and adorned with animal skins and feathers.
We recommend keeping these away from pets and small children. There are several small removable parts.
Although carved from wood they are to be treated as fragile art pieces.
